Whither Sherlock?

    1. Definitely. It showed the Holmes siblings to be humans with human needs and feelings despite their amazing intellects, even the superhuman genius Eurus. The episode was all about the importance of “emotional context”, especially for people like Sherlock, Mycroft and Eurus.

  1. Am I the only one that first heard her name as Gyros? 😉

Series 4 was amazing, and the characters’ emotional back-stories are worth telling. But at this point, I confess I’m a little tired of the trippy what-is-real-what-is-a-dream sequences, the wait-how-is-Moriarty-back-again scenes, etc. The show has gotten so heavy!

The characters will be different people in a new and different stage in their lives. Sherlock will be closer to the more familiar, wiser, older, more venerable Sherlock Holmes of Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett.

Yes! I would be happy to see a Series 5 with some good stand-alone cases, and getting to watch Sherlock do his brilliant thing from a place of more stability. (One of the things I really love about this show is the visuals of his thought process; I loved the thing with the sunlight through the window in Series 4.) And, to have some episodes with more of the light-hearted John putting up with Sherlock’s quirks, banter, etc.

    1. Haha! Tbh I’m not a great fan of “Eurus”, I thought at least one of the Holmes siblings would have a sensible name (although to be fair Sherlock’s first name is actually William).

Yeah, a back-to-basics Sherlock would be a welcome change from the arc-heavy, character drama dominated stuff that the show has been for the last two series (as good as that stuff is). If Series 1-4 is like the origins story of Sherlock Holmes, then subsequent Sherlock should be the “golden days” of Sherlock and John.
